Pick whatever you like at Hoi Tin Café — A Chinatown institution’s next generation makes room for Hong Kong breakfast cravings

The family behind Hoi Tin has been feeding Amsterdam for half a century. At Hoi Tin Café, son Ethan Lo and his partner, Fiene Brouwer, build on decades of Cantonese baking while making room for a new generation of cravings.

Pineapple buns—sweet, soft, and named for their crackly, pineapple-patterned crust—come with an omelet, egg and Spam, or a slab of butter. Scrambled eggs fill milk bread sandwiches, while Hong Kong-style toast and matcha custard buns tempt you toward something sweeter. Milk tea, locally roasted coffee, and seasonal matcha drinks give you plenty to sip alongside.
