They elevate humble bistro-style dishes to haute cuisine heights and serve them on white tablecloths. Their focus is on the highest-quality ingredients without the sky-high menu prices. In the beginning, many thought such a refined establishment should be in the heart of city center, but they dared to create an oasis in the midst of busy Nørrebrogade. When renowned chef Morten Krogholm asked the young, championship-winning chef Magnus Rosendahl to join him in opening a restaurant that breaks the fine dining mold, Rosendahl replied ‘Let’s do it!’ – and we should all be glad he did. Bistro RK is a Michelin-level restaurant meant to be enjoyed by the everyman.

WHAT YOU GET

Enjoy a 5-course menu at Bistro RK. The menu is chef’s choice, so dishes rotate regularly and reflect the best produce of the season. Start with a snack, such as pork croquettes with fermented blackberry barbeque sauce. Savor silky artichoke soup, then dive into Norwegian scallops served with wintery beets and beurre blanc. For the main course, choose between a meat option, like slow-braised lamb shank with potato puree and baked tomato gremolata, and a pescatarian option, such as pan-fried cod with fried cabbage, creamy cod bisque, and fresh herbs. Indulge in vanilla crème brûlée with seasonal fruit sorbet for dessert, or, if it’s more your style, make a selection from the cheese wagon which gets wheeled tableside.

Even better perhaps is the chef’s cart that gets wheeled over to finish your steak au poivre on the spot or flambé your dessert in front of you. Bistro RK is full of finesse without being full of itself, and the team behind it is impressively elite without being elitist. The menu changes every 5-6 weeks, the wines rotate bi-monthly, and even the decor gets tweaked regularly. Every single visit feels like a special occasion, but you don’t have to save up for months to stomach the bill.
