Fried chicken sandwich with fries + drink at Venner in City Center – These former Kadeau chefs have mastered brunch, now they’re bursting onto the sandwich scene
They met in the kitchen at Kadeau, became good friends, and went on to open the aptly named restaurant Venner in 2021. It first became known for its banging brunch, but now the menu is expanding to spice up your weekday lunch. David Squire and Camille Bletton admit they’ve wanted to add a sandwich to the menu for quite a while, but they knew it couldn’t be just any sandwich. They set out to create the perfect one, and now that it’s here in all its crispy, crunchy glory, you can be among the first to try it. Fried chicken and focaccia for the win!
WHAT YOU GET
Enjoy a fried chicken sandwich with fries + drink at Venner. Take a seat inside or grab it to go. Each sandwich is served on warm focaccia and all of the ingredients are organic. The juicy chicken is marinated overnight in buttermilk, spiced with herby rub, coated in cornflakes, and fried to a golden brown crisp. Then, it gets layered with fresh cabbage and parsley slaw, dill pickles, and lemon pepper mayo. Devour a side of fries seasoned with dried parsley and thyme. Wash it all down with a refreshing juice in flavors like carrot, apple, and elderflower, or choose from ginger beer and a variety of sodas.

True to the name, Venner has got to be one of the friendliest places in town. They’ve nailed the sweet spot of exceptional food, impeccable service, and entirely unpretentious vibes. The upstairs has a cozy café feel, outside there’s a scenic courtyard area, and the downstairs boasts a newly rebuilt bar, making it the ultimate gathering place for all kinds of occasions. While the menu has Nordic influences, the chef-owners also draw inspiration from their respective homelands, England and Canada. Now that they’re saying, ‘New Year, New Menu’, it’s the perfect time to go see what they’re cooking up.
