There may be a golden gorilla statue sitting in the window and the staff might wear leopard print shirts every so often, but if there’s one thing they take seriously at Gorilla, it’s the food. Ten years ago, the Meatpacking District was mostly known for its bars and nightclubs, but renowned restaurateurs Rasmus Oubæk and Jesper Marcussen thought it could use a taste of the Mediterranean. Since day one, they’ve continued to raise the standard for dining out in Copenhagen’s industrial quarter. From the same family as Pluto, Barabba, and Maison, this buzzy restaurant keeps it festive, fun, and a little bit funky. Here, you’re guaranteed a good time as well as an eclectic gastronomic adventure.

WHAT YOU GET

Enjoy 8 servings at Gorilla. The menu is chef’s choice, so dishes rotate regularly and reflect the best produce of the season. Start with a round of snacks to share, like thinly sliced coppa, artichoke cream, and baked in-house bread fresh out of the oven. Try crispy salted cod croquettes, then taste octopus salad with butterbeans, pickled green chili, cucumber, and aioli. Eat perfectly ‘al dente’ pasta tossed with sauteéed puntarelle, cime di rapa, and parsley cream sauce. Savor tender beef sirloin tip with black pepper glaze and roasted sage potatoes. For dessert, indulge in an apple tart topped with crème fraîche and mascarpone.
